3-day World Tourism meet from July 8

K. V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad , June 29

ABOUT 200 representatives from 40 countries are expected to attend the 73rd meeting of World Tourism Organisation's (WTO) Executive Council meeting to be held in the city for three days beginning July 8.

The agenda for the meeting includes the issue of liberalisation of trade in tourism services, an official told Business Line.

Keeping in mind the attacks on tourists and hotels in some parts of the world, the council has put on its agenda the issue of protection of hotels and tourist attractions in times of armed conflict.

The council will also discuss results of the first meeting of World Committee on Tourism Ethics held in Rome in February this year.

The council will hold deliberations for two days, which will be followed by a seminar on `Destination Marketing' on the final day.

The seminar will be started by the Secretary-General of WTO, Mr Francesco Frangialli, and it will be open to delegations of both members and non-members of the Council.

The summit offers a tourism menu for the delegates. It covers temple, heritage and handicraft sites in Andhra Pradesh.

``They will be taken on organised tours to Warangal district where they will be shown the historic 1,000-pillar temple and the fort. The package also includes visits to the famous Buddhist site Nagarjuna Konda,'' the official said. Visits are likely to be organised to Pochampalli village also.
