Mid Day to continue FM services for now

Our Bureau

Mumbai , June 29

MID Day Multimedia Ltd intends to continue the FM radio services uninterrupted until the government takes a final decision on the FM licence matter.

The company had earlier given a conditional notice of one year, dated June 29, 2003, to the I&B Ministry for the surrender of Mumbai FM licence and clarified that GO 92.5 FM will be on air at least up to June 28, 2004.

Further, it was informed that if there is any change in the licence fee structure by June 28, 2004, the company retains the right to withdraw the notice and continue licence/licence agreement on revised term and conditions as may be mutually agreed to between the company and the government.

"Since the date of the conditional notice ... the government has appointed TRAI as the regulator for the broadcasting sector. TRAI is already seized of the licence fee issue and has made an interim recommendation to the government to defer the payment of licence fees by the operators," Mid Day said in a notice to the BSE.

In view of this, the company has extended the conditional notice. The court has directed the company to pay 50 per cent of the licence fee on a monthly basis. This will continue till the government reverts on TRAI's recommendations, Mid Day said.
