Mumbai , June 29

LARSEN & Toubro has won a contract for coal gasification equipment from China valued at Rs 95 crore.

With an earlier contract worth Rs 105 crore, L&T now has contracts for fuel extraction systems for Rs 200 crore, said a news release from the company.

One contract is for the Zhong Yuan methanol project of 400,000 tonne-per annum in Henan province in Central China, and the other is for the Yuntianhua group for its 500,000 tpa ammonia project in Yunnan province in South China.

These contracts demonstrate L&T's ability to answer the growing demand for high-tech heavy engineering equipment in China, said Mr M.V. Kotwal, Senior Vice-President (operations), L&T.

The technology for these contracts is from Shell, (the Netherlands).

L&T's heavy engineering division, which will be executing the contracts, has earlier supplied critical reactors worth Rs 65 crore for downstream petrochemical projects in China, promoted by petrochemical companies such as BASF, BP and Shell.
