MUMBAI: Britannia Industries Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 118.8 crore for the year ended March 31, 2004, as against the previous corresponding Rs 99.2 crore. The company's sales amounted to Rs 1,470.5 crore (Rs 1,349.1 crore for the year ago period). ``Despite sluggish growth and pressure on margins in the FMCG sector, Britannia's operating profit has improved by 22 per cent and net profit after tax by 20 per cent,'' an official statement said on Tuesday. According to it, this was achieved by a good performance by its core brands from the mass market segment (`Tiger') and other segments. The re-launch of `Mariegold', introduction of value propositions on brands like `Goodday' and select new product introductions also contributed to the growth. ``The company is restructuring production facilities to achieve the objective of becoming the lowest cost producer by leveraging economies of scale in order to remain competitive in the market place,'' the statement said.
