IA to lease 11 Airbus A-319s for Alliance Air

New Delhi , June 29

INDIAN Airlines is to shortly issue fresh tenders for taking on lease 11 Airbus A-319 aircraft.

Official sources said that the airline plans to take on lease all the aircrafts by June next year for a period of five years. The airline has set the end of July for receiving bids from interested parties.

The leased aircraft are to be operated by the airline's 100 per cent subsidiary, Alliance Air, which at present operates a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.

IA's earlier attempts to take on lease the Airbus aircraft did not meet with much success. Earlier, the airline had planned to take on lease the aircraft in a phased manner and had sought to get the planes for a period of three-years, which could be extended by another two years.

Meanwhile, the IA board on Tuesday approved a proposal for formation of a subsidiary to undertake maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) activities.

The various options before the airline include going alone or entering into a joint venture with private parties, including other airlines, to undertake the MRO activities.
