Fresh working capital sought for poultry farmers

Hyderabad , June 30

THE National Egg Co-Ordination Committee (NECC) has urged the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to reschedule loans and to extend fresh working capital credit to the poultry farmers who have suffered heavy loss on account of a steep fall in chicken prices following the outbreak of bird flu in some of the South East Asian countries.

At a meeting of the representatives of the farming community in New Delhi, convened by the Prime Minister on Monday, the NECC Chairperson, Ms Anuradha Desai, also sought exclusive allocation of maize to the poultry sector by the Food Corporation of India.

She requested the Government to grant the status of agriculture to the poultry sector, according to a NECC press release here on Tuesday.
