Plea to beef up Nabard

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A delegation of All-India Nabard Employees' Association (AINBEA), led by its President, Mr Harish Rawat, Member of Parliament, met the Union Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr Sharad Pawar, and requested his intervention in an effort to strengthen the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).

The association suggested that the Reserve Bank of India enhance its contribution to Nabard through National Rural Credit - Long Term Operations (NRC-LTO), National Rural Credit - Stabilisation (NRC-Stab) and General Line of Credit Fund, among others. In a similar manner, the tax liability of Nabard should be waived and the original status of Rural Infrastructure Development Fund, delinked last year, restored. Smooth industrial relations should be ensured within Nabard, the association said.

Mr Rawat apart, the delegation comprised Mr Vijay Bhosale, General Secretary of the association, Mr Jose T. Abraham and Mr Rana Mitra, Vice-Presidents, Mr P. V. Deshpande, Secretary, and Mr Neeraj Vachher, Secretary, Delhi Unit.
