Mangalore , June 30

BELL Ceramics Ltd plans to expand production capacity of its Dora plant near Baroda by another 7,000 sq. metres a day. At present, the plant produces 10,000 sq. metres of floor and wall tiles a day. It is likely to achieve 17,000-sq.-metre capacity by March 2005.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr K.M. Pai, said the production capacity of the Hoskote plant near Bangalore was recently increased to 22,000 sq. metres a day.

Earlier, it was producing 10,000 sq. metres of floor tiles a day.

Stating that 600 million sq. metres of ceramic tiles are being produced every day in the world, he said India's contribution to this sector is around 150 million sq. metres a day.

The company, which registered a turnover of Rs 138 crore in the last financial year, is targeting a turnover of Rs 190 crore this year.

Mr Pai said the company is planning to achieve a turnover of Rs 400 crore by 2008.

The company's strategy to expand in `B' and `C' towns has been a major success, and there has been growth in the sales of wall and floor tiles, he added.

The Regional Sales Manager (Karnataka and Goa), Mr N. Krishna Raju, said the company is coming out with four to five new designs every month.
