FIEO commends status quo on freight rates

THE Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has welcomed the decision of the Railway Minister, Mr Laloo Prasad Yadav, to retain the passenger fares and the freight rates at the current levels in his maiden Railway Budget.

In a statement, the President of FIEO, Mr Rafeeque Ahmed, complimented the Railway Minister on making his maiden Railway budget a "largely acceptable one and all." He, however, expressed concern over the increase in rates for parcel bookings.

Mr Ahmed also welcomed the `National Rail Vikas Yojana,' which includes strengthening of the golden quadrilateral and rail connectivity to ports.
