Unreserved ticketing system to be extended to all zonal rlys

New Delhi , July 6

PASSENGERS travelling in unreserved coaches will find it easier to buy tickets, with the Railways proposing to extend the facility of buying unreserved tickets three days in advance to the entire network.

After successful trials on Northern Railway, the new Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) developed by Indian Railways is now proposed to be extended progressively on all zonal Railways.

Extension of passenger reservation system, extension of UTS, and computerisation of claim offices figure prominently in the Railway Minister, Mr Laloo Prasad Yadav's maiden Rail Budget 2004-05.

"About 92 per cent of the railway passengers travel without reservation in unreserved coaches in trains in the country. To help these railway passengers, Indian Railways have developed Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS). This system facilitates a passenger to buy a travelling ticket for any station from any of the selected railway stations three days in advance of the required date of journey. This system is now proposed to be extended progressively on all zonal railways," Mr Prasad said.
