SRILANKAN Airlines intends to raise service frequency in the Colombo-Tiruchi-Colombo sector.

According to Mr Pratap Balakrishnan, Sales Manager of the airlines, Tiruchi, the decision has been taken in view of the increasing demand for the service in the sector. The plan will come into effect after completion of the runway expansion at the Tiruchi Airport. Introduction of cargo services ex-Tiruchi is also being explored.

Speaking to presspersons at Tiruchi, Mr Balakrishnan said that in view of the Asia Cup, a mini package tour has been introduced. The three-days/four-nights package includes sightseeing trips between Bentota and Colombo or Dambulla and Colombo.

Special holiday packages are also on offer. The airlines has entered into a tie-up with MGM Resorts, to offer a package tour from Colombo to Velankanni. Package tours to places of interest around Tiruchi and Thanjavur are being worked out.

With the introduction of airline service from Calicut, Srilankan Airlines has been operating in 10 destinations in India. Extension of the services to Ahmedabad and Calcutta are under consideration, Mr Balakrishnan said.
