Safmarine mulls covering India, Bangladesh ports

Our Bureau

Kolkata , July 7

SAFMARINE, a multi-trade shipping line and a member of the India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/UK/Continent Conference, proposes to offer broad coverage of ports on both the east and west coasts of India and also Bangladesh, according to informed sources.

The proposed services will be in addition to the shipping line's traditional calls at Jeddah, Jebel Ali, Port Qasim and Nhava Sheva providing shippers in West Asia, Pakistan and India with "speedy and reliable" services, the sources added.

Meanwhile, the shipping line has introduced certain changes in the traditional services so that it can serve the north Indian trade better through the Pipavav port (Gujarat) and there are two sailings per week in Europe, India and Pakistan.

The new changes will result in improved transit time with consequent fastest shipments for all types of containerised cargo to Europe, the sources added.
