Prices up on good demand at Kochi tea sale

A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the quantity of 948,000 kg on offer in the dust category, good liquoring teas were dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2. Others were fully firm to dearer.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 53 and Rs 70; medium CTC realised Rs 45 and Rs 50; and poorer type were quoted at Rs 35 - Rs 40. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 75 and Rs 85. Secondaries were quoted Rs 30 - Rs 33.

The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 306,000 kg.

Orthodox medium well made teas stayed steady to firm. Others tended to ease.

Fannings were steady, while Highgrown brokens barely steady and tended to ease. CTC's were steady to dearer. Exporters including CIS buyers operated with fair strength compared to last week.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 53 and Rs 66; medium Orthodox realised Rs 45 - Rs 55; and plain Orthodox were quoted Rs 45 - Rs 50.

The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 47 - Rs 53, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 38 - Rs 45.

In the dust category, both Kodanaad BOPD and Havukal BOPD realised the best prices of Rs 85 each followed by Pasuparai SFD by Rs 81.

In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP fetched the best prices of Rs 87 followed by Havukal BOPF by Rs 85 - Rs 84.
