AP farmers' representation sought

HYDERABAD: The Federation of Farmers Association (FFA) has sought inclusion the of a representative of farmers' organisations as a member of the Finance Minister's proposed task force on co-operative banks.

It also wanted Mr P. Chidamabaram to hike the amount of Rs 2,800 crore allocated for the accelerated irrigation benefit programme.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the FFA President, Dr M. Sitarama Swamy, said that the Finance Minister should appoint a monitoring committee with farmers' representatives as member at all-levels to oversee the disbursement of credit to the agricultural sector.

He welcomed the 2004-05 Budget stating that it accorded priority to the agricultural sector.
