MECON made consultant for Rashtriya Ispat project

RASHTRIYA Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) has appointed the Ranchi-based MECON Ltd as consultant for the installation of Rs 300-crore coke oven battery at its Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

This is considered a major investment in the area of coke making facilities by any domestic steel plant in the last five years.

The major facilities to be created at the no. 4 complex include a 7-metre tall coke oven battery with 67 ovens and one dry cooling plant with four chamber boiler module.

MECON's scope of service includes basic design & engineering consultancy and detailed engineering for ordering tailor-made equipment working drawings for construction erection and project execution. The project will be completed in a tight schedule of 36 months.

A MECON source said that the consultancy major was well equipped to offer full range of services - from concept to commissioning and beyond - in coke making and coal chemicals processing technologies. So far, it has installed a number of coke oven batteries in the country including three 7-metre tall coke oven batteries, one at VSP, one at Bhilai Steel Plant and one at Dubri Steel Plant of Neelachal Ispat Nigam.
