Foreign Trade Victorian team holds talks with Industry Minister Our Bureau
Bangalore , July 13 A VESTING delegation of the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce (VECC) led by the Province's Minister for Agriculture, Mr Bob Cameron, held talks with the Karnataka Industry Minister, Mr P.G.R. Sindhia, and industry representatives here to explore the opportunities for expanding export of agro-based processed products from Victoria. The Province already exports goods worth A$184 million, which includes wool, processed foods and confectionaries. Victoria, the Australian Province boasting of being the processed food manufacturing base for many multinational companies, has identified India as a growth area for its products. Members of the delegation, who included representatives from leading food and beverages companies from Victoria, also met their counterparts in Bangalore for exploring opportunities for distribution of their products through retail chains. The Agriculture Minister said Nilgiris stores, a leading supermarket chain here, has been identified as one of the possible partners for promoting premium brands from Victoria. However, he added that no definite move has been made for any tie-up. "We are on a mission to explore the opportunities and possibilities for a collaborative efforts", he said. The delegation comprises representatives from the food and beverage industry in Victoria. Leading names in food processing from Australia such as Unibic Australia as Ballantye Foods Golden Circle are keen to promote their products through the distribution channels in India. Victoria accounts for one third of Australia's food products. The delegation would be visiting Chennai and Mumbai later to explore the opportunities for promoting its products.
