Info-Tech - Outsourcing

`Outsourcing issue not closed yet in US'

Bangalore , July 13

TOP officials of Infosys said on Tuesday said that the backlash against outsourcing was diminishing in the US but warned that there was a possibility of it erupting again.

Replying to a query at a news conference, Mr Nandan Nilekani, CEO, Infosys, said: "It is too early to say that the issue is closed. In the last two months, over one million jobs were created in the US and the decibel level against outsourcing has abated but there is a potential of it erupting again."

The demand for offshore outsourcing continues to be robust as client companies are focusing on growth, he added.

Infosys, which maintained a strong hiring momentum during the quarter by adding 2,300 persons, faced a marginal rise in attrition at 10.90 per cent compared to 10.45 per cent earlier. The company, which had a total headcount of 27,939 at the end of the first quarter, is currently in the processing of building new facilities that can accommodate another 8,000 staff.
