Ranbaxy tops in image recall: Study

Our Bureau

Mumbai , July 13

PHARMA companies may have been left out in the cold by Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram's recent Budget. But they certainly have a good recall in the minds of consumers, of the medical and non-medical variety, according to a study.

Ranbaxy tops the list of the overall company-image charts, followed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd (DRL) and Cipla, according to the ACNielsen ORG-Marg Pharma Corporate Image Monitor "Indian pharma companies form a majority within the list of leading companies in India, in terms of corporate image and reputation," it added.

Rated against factors such as quality, efficiency and affordability of products, besides the overall image of the company, Indian pharma companies did well for themselves. And these perceptions of image and reputation are known to have an impact on the doctors decide which drug to prescribe, an ACNielsen communiqué said here.

Other Indian companies that feature in the top 10 on the image-check, include Sun Pharma, Zydus Cadial and Nicholas Piramal. Besides GSK, the multinationals that feature on this image-rating scale include Pfizer, Aventis Pharma and Novartis.

Medical-representatives (MR) are another yardstick used to gauge a company's acceptability and the affinity to its products, the study said. Companies ranked in the top 10 in terms of image, seem to slip on the MR front, thus revealing opportunities for improvement.

Ranbaxy tops here too, followed by GSK, Cipla, DRL, Pfizer, Sun Pharma, Zydus Cadila, Nicholas Piramal, Glenmark and Torrent, the note said.
