IN order to improve cooperation in the science and technology area between India and Germany, the two countries are in the process of setting up an Indo-German research training group on nano-materials.
They are also looking at the option of establishing collaboration between Indian institutes and Max Planck Institutes. Max Planck Institutes are a chain of independent institutes in Germany and have around 30 Nobel Laureates to their credit.
The Department of Science and Technologyin India and the central funding body for academic research in Germany, are studying these proposals. The German Ambassador, Mr Heimo Richter, said that Germany would be interested in collaborating with India "particularly in the areas of IT and biotechnology". He told this to the media on the sidelines of a conference.
He also said that a 15-member German delegation is currently visiting India exploring investment opportunities in India. They would also be looking for establishing cooperative arrangements with institutions including IIS and NCBS.
