Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts woo eco-friendly industries

THE elected representatives from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have said that environment-friendly industries in the region are welcome.

They were speaking here at a function organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), which felicitated MLAs from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts on the occasion.

The Moodbidri MLA, Mr Abhayachandra Jain, said that he did not see any reason why these two districts should not be the centre of industries that are environment-friendly. However, priority should be given for local people in appointments.

Stating that there is tremendous scope for tourism development in these districts, he said MLAs should work together for the development of tourism sector.

Mr Lalaji Mendon, Kaup MLA, said that the people are not opposed to industries. But the Government should take them into confidence before setting up any industry.

Mr Krishna Palemar, Surathkal MLA, said that industries should conform to the rules of the land, and should not take anything for granted. He assured the meeting that the MLAs from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts would work together for the development of the region.

The Bantwal MLA, Mr B. Nagaraja Shetty, was present. The KCCI President, Mr R.D. Kini, presided over the function.
