AFTER the Star Group Chief, Ms Michelle Guthrie, met the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, urging a speedy clearance of its direct-to-home (DTH) venture, it was the turn of its partner Tata group's, Mr Ishaat Hussain, to come calling.
While Mr Hussain, Finance Director of Tata Sons, refused to divulge details, sources said that the discussions pertained to the company's DTH application. The Tatas have an 80 per cent stake in Space TV, while the Rupert Murdoch-owned Star Group the remaining. The total investment in the DTH project is pegged at about Rs 1,600 crore and the company is targeting a Diwali launch.
Official sources said the Star delegation had pressed for faster clearance for the project when they met Mr Reddy apart from making a strong plea to raise the foreign direct investment levels for such ventures. They felt that the existing 20 per cent limit is too low for a high investment project.
