A prudent measure

The 2004-2005 Budget is a welcome one for spinning mills. The disparity between the regular mills and the small spinners has been evened out by this Budget. The regular spinning units could not compete with their smaller counterparts for various reasons.

The introduction of zero duty has eradicated the chances of duty evasion by certain sections of the industry. The Finance Minister must be complimented for this prudent measure of his, for, the excise on cotton yarn has been in vogue from 1966.
