`Small sector neglected'

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The small-scale industries (SSI) sector feels that it has been neglected in the Budget.

Mr A. Selvaraj, President, Confederation of Southern Small Industries Association (Conssia), in a statement here has said that while the focus of the Budget has been on the anticipated lines, giving thrust to rural India along with education, health and agriculture, the small scale sector has been sidelined.

Major areas of concern of the sector, namely credit delivery mechanism and interest rate reduction have been totally neglected.

While the increase in technology upgradation fund along with an increase in capital subsidy is welcome, it is high time to evaluate its utilisation by the SSI units.
