Sona Institute ties up with George Mason University

Bangalore , July 15

SONA Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS), a member of the Sona Valliappa Group with diversified interests in textiles, IT and plantation businesses, has entered into a tie-up with George Mason University, Washington (GMU), to offer courses in management.

The GMU will offer post-graduate programmes through the Bangalore Centre of Vee Technologies of Valliappa Group. The students will have full access to the GMU faculty and its online content, said Mr C. Valliappa, Chairman of the Group.

He said with the problem of getting the US visa becoming more difficult, the tie-up should help more students seeking management programmes.

Prof Kingsley Haynes, Dean of GMU, who shared his views via a satellite conference with Mr Valliappa, said the tie-up with SIAS would provide best opportunities for Indian students at a lesser cost.

Mr Valliappa said the programme would start in September and will be structured into five semesters. It will also design the programme for working professionals.

GMU is a leading university in the US with enrolment of more than 28,000 students. It is a public university in Virginia offering 144 degree programmes at the undergraduate, masters doctoral and professional levels.

SIAS owns and runs the Sona Group of educational institutions.
