System breakdown continues at Chennai air cargo complex

Our Bureau

Chennai , July 16

WORK at the air cargo complex at the Chennai airport continues to be affected since Monday following a computer glitch.

According to a press release from the Air Cargo Agents Association of India (ACAAI), Southern Region, clearances are delayed, as the export terminal challans need to be prepared manually since the computer system was down.

Another agent said that details of the import shipments that came in on July12 had not been fed into the systems and from July 13, shipments had not been received into the warehouse. This was causing a lot of inconvenience to the air import consolidation agents, clearing agents and the consignees.

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) in a press release said that exporters have been put to further trouble with disruption of work at the air cargo complex. They have also been hit by problems at the Chennai Container Terminal and the Chennai Port.

Due to the disruption of work, more than 2,000 bills of entry are pending delivery at the air cargo complex, the release said.
