Air cargo agents' concern

Our Bureau

KOCHI: The Air Cargo Agents Association of India, Kerala Sub Regional Committee, has said that the 10 per cent service tax plus 2 per cent education cess would adversely affect the export and air cargo industry in a big way.

In a statement issued here, Mr Shaji Varghese, Treasurer, said that the major cargo from Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram airports are perishables such as vegetables and fish. The service tax and education cess on the air freight, which is already on the higher side, would put the agents in a disadvantageous position and they will not be able to compete in the international market.
