SAIL wheels power from Durgapur to Bhilai

Our Bureau

New Delhi , July 17

STEEL Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has become the first company in the country to record inter-State transmission of power between two captive power plants making use of the provisions of open access in transmission system under the Electricity Act, 2003, according to a company release.

This provision allows companies to wheel power between their captive power plants in different locations of the country, using the inter-regional ties of the national grid.

The company has transmitted 20 MW of power from its captive plant at Durgapur in West Bengal to its captive plant at Bhilai in Chhattisgarh.

The capacity utilisation of the 120 MW power plant in Durgapur had remained below par while the power plant at Bhilai generates around 100 MW, which does not fully meet the plant's entire requirement of power. In recent months, BSP's requirement of power has increased by around 20 MW to 30 MW as a result of higher production.Power wheeled from the CPP at Durgapur will satisfy part of this additional requirement of BSP, the release said.
