And, Delhi is also the patent capital

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 18

APART from being the national capital, New Delhi could well also lay claim to being the patents capital of India.

With 678 claims from individuals and organisations, New Delhi has emerged top among Indian cities/States in the filing of patents with the Indian Patent Office , according to a study done by the Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC), under the Department of Science and Technology.

Maharashtra with 650, Tamil Nadu (220) and West Bengal (161) are other States, which figure with a reasonable number of patent applications, out of the 2,371 originating in India and filed, during 2001-02, the PFC said.
