Cloud seeding in 10 AP districts from Wednesday

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 18

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has announced that arrangements were made for initiating the cloud seeding programme, `Megha Mathanam', from Wednesday onwards by contracting two aircrafts of the Agni Aviation.

According to the State Agriculture Minister, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, the aircrafts were expected on Sunday night and the concerned radar station would be ready at Nandyal in Kurnool district by Monday afternoon.

While interacting with the Collectors of ten districts over a videoconference here on Sunday, the Minister said the cloud seeding programme would be implemented for 105 days.

The aircrafts engaged for the mission would be despatched to inject `silver iodide' wherever clouds were available within an aerial radius of 250 km from the radar, he said.

The Minister informed the Collectors that the signals about the availability of clouds received from the radar station would be put on Web site and the Collectors would have to take up follow-up actions.

The Collectors were asked to inform the mandal-level officers about the arrival of the aircraft wherever the cloud seeding was to take place.
