Lister Metropolis lab coming up in Chennai

Our Bureau

Chennai , July 18

JEEVAN Blood Bank location here has been demolished and the site will house Lister Metropolis' high-end diagnostic laboratory. The proposed laboratory is to be completed by September 2005.

Dr G.S.K. Velu, Managing Director, Metropolis Health Services, said the proposed laboratory would be spread over 6.5 grounds and 25,000 sq ft of floor space. He estimated the cost at Rs 10 crore, including basic equipment.

Metropolis has a chain of diagnostic centres across the country, set up in association with leading local players such as Lister Labs. Though the chain of centres is expected to come wholly under Metropolis' control in the next two years, the Chennai centre would retain the Lister brand name.

Dr Velu said Metropolis would retain the Lister brand here because of its credibility. He added that the Chennai lab would continue to be headed by Dr P. Srinivasan, the promoter of Lister Labs.

At the moment, Metropolis has approached the authorities to get the area earmarked for the laboratory re-classified for commercial use. Dr Velu said the re-classification was expected in a month's time.

In addition to its venture with Lister Labs, Metropolis manages the diagnostic lab at Malar Hospital.
