BSNL extends booking date for `Plan 360' in TN

R.Y. Narayanan

Coimbatore , July 19

ENTHUSED by the public response to its `Plan 360' in Tirupur and Coimbatore, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has extended by a month the last date of application both for new booking and for migration by existing customers, up to August 16.

BSNL had originally kept the scheme open in Tirupur and Coimbatore for a month - from June 17 to July 16. As it generated good response from the public, BSNL has now extended the time for booking/migration by one more month.

A BSNL source told Business Line here today that normally the number of applications received in a month for new telephone connections was around 1,000-1200 in both the towns put together. But after the new scheme was announced, this nearly trebled to 3,000 applications for new connections. The number of applications for migration to the new scheme by the existing customers zoomed to around 10,000.

Under the current normal plan of BSNL, customers pay a monthly rental of Rs 250 that entitles them to receive 50 free calls. For the 51-300 calls in a month, the customers are charged Re 1 per call. With a monthly rental of Rs 250 and call charges amounting to Rs 250 for 250 calls, the subscribers under this plan are billed Rs 500 a month.

But under `Plan 360', the customers, for a monthly rental of Rs 360 get 300 free calls a month worth Rs 360 since the calls are charged at the rate of Rs 1.20 per unit.

The BSNL source said the scheme is beneficial to the existing BSNL customers under the normal plan opting to migrate since they would be paying only Rs 360, including monthly rental and 300 free calls, instead of Rs 500 that they were paying now every month that covered rental, 50 free calls and 250 paid calls.

The saving would be Rs 140 in call charges and the service tax on it. The new scheme would be cost effective for those who were making up to 300 calls a month and were in the normal BSNL plan.

From new customers opting for the new plan, Rs 1000 would be collected as deposit for local/STD facility. For ISD facility, the deposit would be Rs 3000. No installation charge would be levied and the scheme would be effective from the date of provision of telephone connection.

For the existing customers wanting to migrate to the new plan, the effective date of migration would be August 1 and the last date for submission of applications is August 16 for both categories of applicants.

The BSNL source said the organisation has fixed the effective date of migration for the existing customers as August 1 for billing purposes.
