Cause for concern

This is with reference to "Minimum wage: Key to UPA's employment programme" (Business Line, July 21). The increase in the number of educated unemployed youth is of concern, added to which is the rising disparity in the rural and urban wage rates.

At a time when branded, MNC products are available even in small villages, the cost of living will not be very different from urban areas. Rural folk too have to contend with increasing inflation and slow rise in incomes.

No wonder Dr Manmohan Singh, when he was in the RBI, said that containing inflation is a well-structured anti-poverty measure.
