New Delhi , July 21

ISRAEL'S Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labour has recognised the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), along with 16 other organisations, for their outstanding contribution in strengthening trade links with the country.

The Israeli Ambassador, Mr David Danieli, presented the award on behalf of the Government of Israel.

Total trade between the two countries for the year 2002-03 stood at $1,246.32 million.

To enhance the economic and political ties between the two countries, the FICCI President, Mr Y.K. Modi, led a 15-member business delegation for the India-Israel Joint Business Council meeting and Destination India this January.

The event was held simultaneously with the third India-Israel Trade and Economic Committee in Israel.

During the visit, FICCI signed MoUs for co-operation with various organisations such as the Manufacturers' Association of Israel, the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce, the Israel Export and International Co-operation Institute and the Israel-Asia Chambers of Commerce.
