Natural Calamities NCW to conduct suicide study Our Bureau
HYDERABAD: The National Commission for Women (NCW) would conduct a study of the families of farmers, who committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, beginning mid-August, according to its Chairperson, Dr Purnima Advani. The study would focus mainly on the impact of the tragedy on the families, especially women, who are the surviving care-takers of their families and the strategies adopted by them in coping up with the situation. The NCW team was on a two-day visit to the State to get a first hand knowledge about the conditions of women and children. Andhra Pradesh is the 16th State the NCW was visiting during the year, she told newspersons on Wednesday. While expressing dissatisfaction over the non-establishment of State Women's Commission, She suggested that the Government should take measures to ensure that agricultural women workers get equal and minimum wages. The NCW also submitted a report on the status of tribal girls hostels in Paderu region to the State Government.
