AP Govt not to renew PW ban

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: Removing a major roadblock in the proposed talks with CPI (ML) (People's War), the Andhra Pradesh Government has decided not to renew the ban on the Naxalite party and its six front organisations.

The ban, which was first imposed on May 21, 1991 by the then Mr N. Janardhan Reddy Government, is to expire on Thursday. The ban has been in force for the last 13 years with a pause of one year during the Telugu Desam rule.

The decision to allow the ban to lapse was taken after a prolonged discussion between Mr K. Jana Reddy, the Home Minister, and representatives of PW and mediators during the day.

Announcing the decision, Mr Jana Reddy said the Government took into consideration appeals from various walks of life. He said the move would further help in creating congenial atmosphere for the talks with Naxalite leaders.

The six front organisations, on which the ban will go from Thursday, are Radical Students Union, Radical Youth League, Rytu Coolie Sangham, Singareni Karmika Samakhya, Viplava Karmika Samakhya and All India Revolutionary Students' Federation.
