Roadways No hike in bus fares: Kerala CM Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, has ruled out any immediate hike in bus fares in the State. But, the Government was willing to hold discussions with the bus operators who have threatened to go on strike, he told newspersons after a Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday. Among other things, the Cabinet had approved, in principle, a proposal to provide various concessions to the German auto major, BMW, to set up a factory in Kochi. The concessions proposed ranged from allotment of 25 acres of land near Kochi, uninterrupted power supply and water. Further decisions in this regard would be taken after hearing from the company. BMW was learnt to have considering Hyderabad also as a prospective location to set up an Indian base. The Chief Minister also announced that expatriate Keralites would be supplied, on request, photo identify cards by the Department for Non-Resident Keralites Affairs. They would get priority in getting business done at Government offices when they come visiting home. The Cabinet also decided to advance a sum of Rs10 lakh as the State Government's contribution for the relief of the families of victims of the fire accident at Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu.
