Workshop on Six Sigma

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: It is imperative for Indian companies to adopt Six Sigma to improve quality and cut costs enabling them to compete effectively in the domestic and export markets, Mr S.V Praveen, Senior General Manager, LG Polymers India Private Ltd, has said.

At the inaugural of a three-day workshop on Six Sigma here on Thursday, organised by the local chapter of Quality Circle Forum of India, he said his company had been adopting Six Sigma since 1996 after it had been acquired by the Korean company, LG Chemicals.

``It has yielded such good results that we are one of the best in terms of quality. We have improved our exports remarkably, to the extent that of our annual turnover of Rs 400 crore exports account for nearly 20 per cent,'' he said, and urged other companies here to adopt Six Sigma.

Mr M.S. Srinivas of LG Polymers said it was a wonderful tool in the hands of any company and Indian companies could no longer ignore it in this competitive era. Mr K.A. Naidu, Executive Director, Maintenance, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, said the steel industry should also adopt Six Sigma as in other countries.
