Airlines India, UK agree to raise number of flights Our Bureau
New Delhi , July 23 THE long-awaited air services talks between India and the UK may finally be held soon. At a meeting in London between the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, and the British Secretary of State for Transport, Mr Alistair Darling, there was an `in principle' agreement between the two to enhance the number of flights and increase the frequencies between India and the UK. During the meeting, it was also agreed that the bilateral talks between the two countries would be expedited and held either in August or latest by the first week of September this year. The earlier round of air services bilateral talks which were scheduled to be held in March this year were postponed. Currently, British Airways is operating 19 flights a week to India, including a daily flight to Delhi and Mumbai and a twice-a-week connection to Chennai. Besides, Air India operates 12 flights a week to the UK. In addition, Virgin Atlantic also operates on the London-Delhi-London route three times a week.
