Politics AP Bill soon to provide for quota to Muslims Our Bureau
Hyderabad , July 23 THE Andhra Pradesh Government will come out with a Bill providing for five per cent reservations to Muslims in educational institutions and Government jobs in the State, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said. Talking to newspersons after a meeting with the floor leaders in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, the Chief Minister said that all political parties except the Bharatiya Janata Party had extended support to the Government for enacting a legislation providing reservations to Muslims. The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday suspended the State Government order on reservations for Muslims. Following this, the Chief Minister held discussions with the State Advocate General and also with leaders of various political parties in the Assembly on Friday. When pointed out that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, had described the lifting of ban on People's War as a dangerous move, Dr Reddy said that it was her perception. As far as his Government was concerned, it was a calculated move. He ruled out allowing People's War cadres carrying arms in the open following the lapse of the ban imposed on the organisation. "There should be law and order" in the State, he said.
