Shibu Soren resigns

New Delhi , July 24

THE Union Coal Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha supremo, Mr Shibu Soren, on Saturday submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.

Earlier, on Friday night the Prime Minister had asked Mr Soren to resign in connection to an old murder case for which arrest warrant had been issued in his name and the Jharkhand Police had sent a team to Delhi to arrest him.

Mr Soren had went in hiding after the warrant was issued and today the resignation letter was handed over to the Prime Minister by a team of JMM leaders, including Sibu Soren's son, Mr Hemant Soren and party MPs, Mr Tek Lal Mahato and Mr Sunil Kumar Mahato.

According to available information, Mr Soren, in his letter to the Prime Minister has stated that he is resigning under the Prime Minister's instruction and would take legal recourse against the arrest warrant issued against him in a 30-year old case.
