Tea Tea prices spurt at Kochi auction Our Bureau
Kochi , July 25 A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 8,80,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market was easier by Rs 1-2 and sometimes more. Orthodox highgrown was easier and mediums steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 54 and 72, medium CTC realised Rs 48-52 and poorer type were quoted Rs 35-42. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices at Rs 82, while medium BOPD realised Rs 36-38. The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 2,71,000 kg. Orthodox highgrown brokens were steady to dearer, while fannings remained steady. Medium brokens and fannings were fully firm to dearer by Rs 2-3 and at time more. Whole leaf grades were firm. CTC medium brokens and fannings were dearer by Rs 1-2. Highpriced teas remained steady. Exporters including CIS buyers operated with fair strength compared to last week. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 57 and Rs 68, medium orthodox realised Rs 48-60. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 48 and Rs 58, while medium CTC realised Rs 42-48. In the dust category, Parkside BOPD-CL fetched the best prices of Rs 82 followed by Pasuparai SFD and FD by Rs 79 each. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP realised the best prices of Rs 94, followed by Havukal BOPF by Rs 82.
