`Black Saturday' for GTB clients

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , July 25

IT was a quiet Saturday until the flash news on the TV screen alerted the viewers about moratorium on Global Trust Bank.

Within minutes, customers and depositors started rushing to the nearest ATM or the bank's branch to enquire. But by then, the staff had left for the day.

Mr Simon, a software engineer, was literally in tears for he had only a couple of days back deposited his first salary in his GTB account. "My parents sent me some money last month, with which I opened an account here. It is closer to my office and convenient. I drew my first salary only this month and this is my first assignment after graduation," said Mr Simon.Ms Umavathy, a tuition teacher is an account holder at GTB.

"I never anticipated this. What should we do now?" she asked, but there was no staff around to comfort or reassure her.
