New Delhi , July 26 MARUTI Udyog has posted a 42.1 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 170.9 crore during the first quarter ended June 30, against Rs 120.2 crore during the year-ago period, buoyed by a 19 per cent jump in sales volume. Total income (net of excise) was Rs 2,616.46 crore, a growth of 24.1 per cent over the previous period. According to a company statement, the first quarter was marked by higher raw material prices and the price repositioning of the Alto model. Expenditure on raw material and components increased to Rs 1,953.59 crore (Rs 1,593 crore). Higher sales volumes and the benefits from its ongoing programme to enhance productivity and reduce costs across the value chain helped the growth in net. Maruti sold 1,23,624 vehicle units during the quarter, a growth of about 19 per cent. This included exports of 12,240 units.
