Medical Institutions & Hospitals IT resource centre at LV Prasad Institute Our Bureau
Hyderabad , July 27 THE visually handicapped people will now have access to computers and the power of the Internet at the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad. A separate IT Resource Centre has been opened at the hospital. The vision rehabilitation centres at LVPEI will house the IT Resource Centre to provide the visually handicapped an opportunity to use computer software and other peripherals to become self-sufficient and better integrated with society. The software technology available at the resource centre includes JAWS, MAGic, Kurzweill 1000, and WinBraille. It is also equipped with a Braille printer and is developing a Braille library. The computer can be used as an intelligent interface between the visually impaired and the sighted through the use of screen readers, speech synthesisers, Braille displays, screen magnification systems and text-to-speech engines. The resource centre will offer special software, personalised assessment and appropriate training, flexible and convenient time schedules for training, trained professionals for assistance, accessibility to low vision devices for purchase and continuous monitoring and follow-up at minimal cost. The resource centre is being supported by non-resident Indians, Mrs and Mr Gottipalli and the Deshpande family from the US and the Latter Day Saints Charities, also from the US.
