Chennai , July 28

ORCHID Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals recorded a profit after tax of Rs 4.69 crore (Rs 7.56 crore), down by 37 per cent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

The company's profit was negatively impacted by an increase in interest expense. Orchid's press release attributed the same to the effects of an increased scale of operations and investment required for regulated markets.

Interest expense for the quarter was Rs 16.86 crore (Rs 11.08 crore), while the sales for the period was Rs 173.86 crore (Rs 172.92 crore).

Orchid's raw material cost during the quarter was Rs 87.87 crore (Rs 105.67 crore), a fall of 16.84 per cent. The profit before interest, depreciation and taxes was Rs 37.24 crore (Rs 33.08 crore), higher by 12.57 per cent.
