Ban on deep-sea fishing in Karnataka

MANGALORE: THE Department of Fisheries has warned fishermen that action will be taken against those violating ban on deep-sea fishing.

A press release by the Directorate of Fisheries, Bangalore, said here on Friday that the use of mechanised boats for deep-sea fishing is banned till August 15.

The Deputy Directors of Fisheries in Mangalore and Karwar have informed this to all the fishermen unions in the coastal region.

Apart from legal action against those violating the ban, the facilities provided to them will be withdrawn, the release added.
