Lupin plans 3-fold hike in research spend

Mumbai , July 31

DRUG company Lupin Ltd has said that there would be a three-fold increase in its research spend - from Rs 40 crore in fiscal 2003-04 to Rs 120 crore in the current fiscal (2004-05).

The Chairman, Dr Desh Bandhu Gupta, said the scale-up in research investments would help accelerate efforts towards the development of new chemical entities, new drug delivery systems and generics research.

At the company's 22 annual general meeting, Dr Gupta said the investments would drive the company's growth in advanced markets. It hopes to file 14 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) this year.

"We have already filed two ANDAs in the first quarter of 2004-05," he said. The company also filed two drug master files, Dr Gupta added.
