Intas Pharma to launch series of biotech drugs

Our Bureau

Chennai , Aug 1

FOUR years of biotech developmental work has put Intas Pharmaceuticals in a position to launch new products at six-month intervals, according to its officials.

Intas' officials were in the city to promote the company's first biotech product, Neukine (Human Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor), used in treating cancer. Neukine would be followed by the launch of Erythropoietin and Interferon, they said.

Intas' products would largely centre on the treatment of cancer, said Mr R. Chandrasekaran, Vice-President (Marketing).

The company's manufacturing process has had a big say in the kind of products it plans to launch. Officials said the company would stick to products that required a "small scale" of manufacturing.

The company has invested about Rs 40 crore-Rs 45 crore in the developmental work.
