THE Karnataka Government is planning to sign agreements with other southern States to provide common minimum wages for workers in beedi and agarbathi industries.

This was disclosed by Mr Tanvir Sait, Labour Minister, in Mangalore on Sunday. The State Government has also requested the Centre to implement common minimum wages for beedi workers. On the problems of beedi workers, he said that Rs 54.25 has been fixed as daily minimum wages.

The Government is working on a scheme to provide arrears for beedi workers for the period between April 1, 2003 and June 30, 2004.
