Chamber decries violence in Kerala
Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chamber of Commerce, Thiruvananthapuram, has denounced recent incidents in which strikes and other forms of protests have degenerated into a free-for-all leading to the destruction of public and private properties at many places in the State.
The Chamber demanded that the State Government invoke all powers under its command to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and recover from the political formation, which gives the call for the strike, the amount for losses suffered.
Invariably, it's the trade and commercial establishments that have come to bear the brunt of what the Chamber described as the disruptive tendency perpetrated by misguided elements. This would only discourage fresh investments from coming into the State. The tourism sector would also stand to lose in the bargain, resulting in a major setback to the State's economy, the Chamber said.
